Wild Neighbours

Are swallows nesting at your house or in your stable? Have you seen a badger in the middle of town? Or do you regularly observe a kestrel in your garden? We are interested in your observations in rural settlement areas!

Based on this, we hope to have a broad data base to better assess the distribution of diverse birds and other wildlife in Austria's settlement areas, with the focus on the Wagram region in Lower Austria, since the association Discover and Conserve Nature is located there.

Research platform

On the internet platform "www.wildenachbarn.at" you can report your observations and view other observations. Find out about current sightings in your area and get further information on the biology of wild animals and their distribution in rural areas. You can also call up assistance in cases of conflict and for finding helpless or injured wild animals. We will also be happy to assist you with questions regarding your observation. The platform is unique in Austria: specialised in the occurrence of birds and wildlife in rural settlements and linked to scientific research.

Where pathways cross …

Various birds and other wild animals populate our settlement areas as our immediate neighbours. Often little is known about their occurrence and distribution in the vicinity of humans. The Wild Neighbours project aims to close these knowledge gaps with the help of the population and to be able to provide adequate management suggestions in case of conflict or damage.

You too can become part of our research project!
